Amyt Datta Biography

Amyt Datta is a noted guitarist, composer, and producer from Kolkata. He is also a session musician, teacher and mentor. He is regarded as one of the most innovative guitarists of India at present. Now he has been associated with popular bands like Pinknoise, Skinny Alley, and his own solo work with Jivraj Singh. His popular albims include D for Brother, Pink fraud, Electropink, The Dance Of The Diaspora, Songs from the Moony Boom, Escape of roar and Ambiance de Danse, the latest released in the year 2013.

 

Amyt’s father was an educationist and his mother belonged to a traditional music family. Amyt's maternal grandfather Raichand Boral is regarded as the father of Bollywood music. He played guitar since his early childhood. He along with his cousin took guitar lessons in Indian classical and semi-classical music. Later Amyt studied western music theory lessons from the legendary Carlton Kitto. He calls his first guitar as "the Trunk". In the late 70s Amyt met Jayashree and Gyan Singh at the Beatstock and very soon they became friends. Many works were later born in the collaboration of these three. By the age of 20, he started performing rock in several music shows. It was the era of rock music too.

 

Amyt along with his brother Monojit performed experimental music under the moniker D for Brother. It was cross cultural and new experiment never heard before and hence appreciated by audience. An audio cassette was released in 1992, but it went unnoticed. Later they composed nearly 100 sonsg and performed live in many concerts as well. In the early 90s Amyt joined Pop Secret, along with his long term friends, Jayashree and Gyan. But Pop Secret was later dissolved and new brand Skinny Alley was formed.
