Anupama Deshpande Biography

Anupama Deshpande is a famous playback singer of Bollywood. Though a few, she has numerous Hindi hits in her name. In 1984, she won Filmfare award for best female singer for the song, "Sohni Chinab Di" in the film Sohni Mahiwal. Though the song was meant for Asha Bhosle that time, Anupama track sung that song for her. It was due to busy schedule of Asha. But later when Asha heard the song, she requested the music director to keep as it is and this particular song fetched singing credits as well as prestigious Filmfare award for this singer.

This singer was born on October 2, 1953 and now, she is less active in the industry. Perhaps the most noted song of her career is the dancing number for Madhuri Dixit – Hum ko aaj kal hai intezaar from the movie Sailaab (1990). Another popular track is Title track of Tum mere ho, where she sang aside Amit Kumar, for Juhi Chawla. Her songs from Nirmala Machindra Kamble were noted most, including Mee Aaj Nahatana, Bhiyu Nako and Gabhru Nako.

A few of the noted songs of Anupama are - "Tumse Mile Bin" from Kabja, "Bicchua" from Arth, "Mera Peshha Kharab Hai" and "Parvat Se Jhan" from Bhediyon Ka Samooh and "Main Teri Rani” from Lootera. "Sohni Chinab Di" from the movie, Sohni Mahiwal indeed provided big break to this playback singer to the industry. When the movie, starring Poonam Dhillon and Sunny Deol became hit at the box office, its songs were equally successful too. When the title track was sung by Asha Bhosle herself, this folk based song, meant for Asha remained in Anupama’s name. Rest is history! Though she has sung only a few songs for the industry, she is one among those lucky singers to win Filmfare awards for playback singing.
