Jagdish Chandra Mahindra Biography 
Jagdish Chandra Mahindra (J. C. Mahindra) was an Indian industrialist and co-founder of Mahindra & Mahindra in 1945. He founded the company along with K. C. Mahindra and Malik Ghulam Mohammed. J.C. Mahindra and K.C. Mahindra, in association with Ghulam Mohammed started a steel company in 1945 in Mumbai. However with Indian independence, Ghulam Mohammed left India to Pakistan. The company’s name changed to Mahindra & Mahindra. J. C. Mahindra died in 1951 following a heart attack.
He was born in Ludhiana, Punjab in the year 1892. He was the eldest of nine children and lost his father at a younger age. Thus he had to take the responsibilities of a big family at a young age. He strongly believed in the power education and hence he ensured better studies to his younger siblings, both brothers and sisters. He was very close to his siblings and loved them affectionately. He sent his brother K.C. Mahindra to Cambridge for higher education, which helped them a lot in building Mahindra Empire. The brothers later worked together for the foundation of Mahindra Company. Jagdish received his engineering degree from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai.
Mahindra started out his career with Tata Steel in the year 1929 and continued there till 1940, where he held the post of senior Sales Manager. When the steel industry became critical during World War II, he was appointed as the first Steel Controller of India by British government. Later his vision and ambition led to the start Mahindra & Mohammad in partnership with K.C. and Ghulam Mohammed. Mahindra & Mohammed steel company was formed in Mumbai. When Ghulam Mohammed left the company to become Pakistan’s first finance minister, Mahindra Brothers decided to manufacture Willys jeeps in Mumbai. Thus started the successful story of Mahindra and Mahindra vehicle manufacturing company.
