Jeakson Singh Thounaojam Biography 
Jeakson Singh Thounaojam is an Indian professional footballer who plays as midfielder for India national under-17 football team. Currently playing for team India in 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup being held in India, he made it history by scoring the first goal for India ever in a FIFA world cup. He scored his maiden FIFA World Cup goal against Colombia. It’s a historic moment for team India and its members, as it is India’s first ever appearance in a FIFA world cup, and first goal too. It’s quite co-incidence that Team captain Amarjit Singh Kiyam is his distant cousin and both belong to same family and same village of Manipur. They are born in the same year and hence same age too. Both belong to the rural village, Hokha Mamang Leykai, which has now found its place in India’s and world’s sports map.
Jeakson Singh Thounaojam hails from Haokha Mamang Leikai village from Manipur. He was born on 21 June 2001. He was born into a poor family. He along with his cousin Amarjit Singh Kiyam practised and played football at Chandigarh Football academy. Amarjit is the son of his uncle of distant relation, but belonging to same family. Both these players were introduced to football and playground by Jeakson Singh’s father, Konthaujam Deban Singh who worked in Manipur police. Following a stroke two years back, Deban is currently in rest. Many members of his family have played football. His elder brother Johnychand has been a member of Peerless Club which took part in Kolkata Premier League.
Jeakson’s mother sells vegetables at a market 25 kms away from their village. When Jeakson’s family asked him to stop playing football when he was only 5, he went for hunger strike. He withdrew from strike only after he was given permission to play football. Jeakson Singh became a part of Indian National team just 6 months ago. He was denied admission to the team earlier for his height. But this height helped him to score the first goal for team India through a header.
