N. P. Chellappan Nair Biography 
N. P. Chellappan Nair was a law graduate and IAS officer from Kerala, better known as a writer and playwright of Malayalam. He also wrote numerous short stories. The play - Iblisukalude Naattil is his acclaimed work, which won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Drama in 1961. He served as Collector of Alappuzha, wrote scripts for films, and also acted in many of them. During his active years of writing, he received a lot of help from many quarters, who include - then Regent Sethulakshmi Bai, scholars like Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer, Dr. L.A. Ravi Varma and many others, while he was scripting for a movie based on the life of Marthanda Varma. Quite interestingly he belongs to the list of civil servants and bureaucrats who got involved themselves with Malayalam cinema.
N. P. Chellappan Nair was born in the year 1903. He hailed from Mannar of present-day Alappuzha district. Most of his education was completed in Thiruvananthapuram. Since those days, he was in constant touch with amateur drama troupes. He wrote plays and also appeared on stage as an actor. He got drawn towards cinema, when he was a law student at Thiruvananthapuram. He started off with screenwriting, and did a lot of research work to complete the screenplay of Marthanda Varma. He began writing his script keeping it free from any form of influences.
During his lifetime he published over 200 short stories. NPyude Charithrakathakal is a collection of 21 short stories authored by him. He scripted the films - Prahlada (1941), Chandrika (1950), Sasidharan (1950), Chechi (1951) and Athmasanthi (1964). Iblisukalude Naattil, Pranaya Jambavan, Lady Doctor, Vikata Yogi, Bhavana, Nurse, Minnal Pinarukal etc are among noted plays. He passed away in 1972.
