Prabhakar Jog Biography

Prabhakar Jog was an accomplished violinist who has also worked in Bollywood with many legendary music directors like Jaidev Madan mohan, S.D. Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Shankar-Jaikishan, O.P.Nayyar, Usha Khanna, Khayyam and Ravindra Jain in the golden era of Hindi music. He was associated with 'Geet Ramayana' series of Mr. Sudhir Phadke.  Apart from a violinist he also worked as assistant music composer and music arranger in the industry.

 

He was born in Haregaon, Maharashtra on 25th Dec 1932. Since childhood he was drawn towards music. He took formal training in Hindustani music under Pt. Gajananrao Joshi and Pt. Narayanrao Marulkar. His elder brother Vamanrao Jog used to conduct violin tuitions at home and Jog used to listen to his classes. He was inspired a lot by Shridhar Palshikar’s programs on AIR and he decided to learn violin from his brother. He later accompanied many vocalists for live concerts and violin became a part of his life. He lost his father at the age of 12 and a situation occurred when he had to earn his own bread. Thus he played violin to earn a living.

 

He performed at his college annual function in 1951, through which he got instant recognition. Sudhir Phadke happened to watch this performance and he offered a job role in his own orchestra which proved to be the turning point of his career. The Marathi film 'Shri Gurudevdatta' marked his career beginning as a violinist for movies and later he got associated with many leading music directors belonging to both Hindi and Marathi films. He has also composed a few songs for AIR, Pune. 'Lapvilpas Tu Hirva Chafa’ was his first song, sung by Neela Jog, his wife.  He has released 12 private albums in total.
