R. Dilip Biography

R. Dilip was a south Indian film actor who played lead roles as well as supporting roles during 1980’s. He has acted in more than 70 Tamil films, 15 Kannada films and one Malayalam movie. Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Mappillai, Enga Ooru Pattukaran, Mappillai, Varumaiyium Niram Sivappu, Valli, Thoongadhey Thambi Thoongadhey, Penmani aval kanmani and Solla Thudikuthu Manasu are his noted Tamil movies. Though he has appeared in only one Malayalam movie throughout his career, Jnan Ekananu in 1982 he is still remembered for the evergreen songs pictured on him – Oh Mridule and Pranayavasantham. He was paired opposite Poornima Jayaram in this successful romantic movie and veteran actor Madhu played the lead actor role. He died in Mysore on 25 May 2012 aged only 52, survived by his wife Hema and 2 children.

 

He was born in Chennai. He entered movies in the 1970’s and was successful in doing supporting and character roles. He has shared screen place with Rajinikanth in Tamil movies like Valli and Mapillai and has been regularly featured in Visu’s movies. He has acted around 15 movies in Kannada which include Arishina Kumkuma, Shrudi, Indina Ramayana, Oru cinema kathe, Ongadi Baalu, Onde Goodina Hakki and Tooguve Krishnana. This actor shot to fame with Tamil movie, Varumayin Niram Siavappu in which he acted aside Kamal Haasan. His real talent was recognized by filmmaker, Dwarakish Shruthi.

 

Though his career noticed peaks, he couldn’t sustain there. He was mostly seen in hero’s friend roles. He invested huge sums of money in business which was a huge loss and in 2004, he got settled in Chennai. He was suffering from Kidney ailments for a long time and died on 25 May 2012 following a major heart attack, aged only 52.
