Varsha Usgaonkar Biography

Varsha Usgaonkar is a popular actress of Marathi cinema. She has also worked for a few Hindi movies as well as teleserials. She hails from Goa and she was one among the most sought heroines of Marathi during 90’s. In the middle 90’s, she did a few teleserials on Doordarshan of which Jhansi ki rani and Chandrakantha are most popular. Her other popular television serials are Alvida Darling, Tanha and Anhonee. She is married to Ajay Sharma, son of popular music director of yesterdays – Ravi. Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi and Pathreela Raasta are successful movies of Bollywood where she played leading actress role. After marriage in 2000, she returned to Bollywood and did a few roles as supporting actress. In The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey, she reprised her role played in Doordarshan serial Jhansi ki rani. She played the same role in Aamir Khan’s Mangal Pandey. She has also sung a Konkani music album ‘Roop Tujem Laita Pixem’ along with Ulhas Buyao.

Ajay Sharma was born on 28 February 1968 in Goa. Usgaonkar is the daughter of Goa's former Deputy Speaker Sri Atchut K Usgaonkar. She became popular in Marathi with the mega blockbuster hit drama – Brahmachari. Very soon she got opportunities to work in Marathi and Hindi movies. Her super-hits Marathi movies of 80’s include Gammat Jammat, Hamal De Dhamal, Saglikade Bombabomb, Sawat Majhi Ladki, Shejari Shejari, Ek Hota Vidushak, Lapandaav and Aflatoon. Her popular Bollywood movies are Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi and Pathreela Raasta where she played leading actress role.  

In the late 80’s, she played the role of Uthara in Doordarshan teleserial Mahabharatha. It proved successful and it gave her direct entry to serial world. The role of wife of Abhimanyu and mother of Parikshit happened in the year 1988 when Doordarshan was the only television channel available in India. In the most popular television serial of 1990’s in Doordarshan – Chandrakantha (1994), she played the role of snake queen.

Her other memorable Hindi films include – Naam, Chehra, Khal nayika, Ek Hota Vidushak, Dilwale kabhi na hare, Ghar jamai, Saathi, Hafta bandh, Doodh ka karz, Style, Hatya: The murder and Hastee Haste.
