Vinaya Prasad Biography

Vinaya Prasad is a popular film and television actress of South India. She concentrates most on Malayalam and Kannada movies and works in other languages as well. She has won the State Best Actress Award for her performances in Kannada movies, Aathanka (1993) and Bannada Hejje (2001). She has played leading roles as well as supporting roles. Her supporting role, opposite Mohanlal in all-time blockbuster Malayalam movie, Manichitrathazhu released in 1993 needs special mention. She is most successful in Kannada than Malayalam movies. She has shared screen space with almost all leading super stars of Kannada film industry.

Vinaya is a native of Udupi of Karnataka state. Vinaya made her film debut with a small role in G V Iyer’s Madhwacharya in 1988. Lead role in Ganeshana Maduve opposite Ananth Nag was first noted performance. After that she has appeared in more than 60 south Indian movies. her noted Kannada movies include - Neenu Nakkare Haalu Sakkare, Ganeshana Maduve, Gauri Ganesha, Mysore Jaana and Suryodaya. Now she has moved to mother roles in movies as well as television serials. Now she concentrates most on television serials than movies most. She has been a part of longest running daily soap of Malayalam television – Stree. Vinaya is also known as compere and singer and has successfully done a few stage shows. Currently she is married to Jyotiprakash, director of television serials. Earlier she was married to V.R.K Prasad, but he passed away in 1995.

Her noted Telugu movies include - Indra, Donga Dongadi and Andhrudu. Her most successful Tamil movie is Thaikulame Thaikulame, where she worked aside Pandiarajan and Urvashi. Apart from Manichitrathazhu, she is most popular with ghost type roles in Malayalam. She has acted in Mookilla Rajyathu, Perunthachan, Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu, Bhadra, 24 hours, Marykkundoru Kunjaadu, Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu, Spanish masala and Laalanam.
