NDA is one of the options to join National defense services as an officer. To get an admission in NDA an applicant should appear in entrance exam after passing out his 10+2 exam. The entrance exams are conducted twice every year, once in April-May and then entrance in NDA in September-October. These exams qualify a successful male candidate to join Army, Navy or Air force according to his choice. The aspirants to join Indian armed forces should know that only unmarried male aged in between 16 years and 6 months to 19 could apply for admission in National defense Academy. For joining Air Force and Navy, the candidate should have Math and Physics in their course at +2 levels.
First Phase of Test
The selection process for NDA takes place in two steps first a written examination is conducted. It is an objective type test, which consists of general math and general knowledge based question papers. The math paper having 120 questions with maximum of 300 marks and general knowledge having 150 questions has maximum 600 marks. Both these two papers are of two hours duration and generally have the same standard as that of secondary school level.
Second Phase of Test
Once the candidates clear the written exams, they are called for interview, which is conducted by SSB. This interview is to test the future army officers for their intelligence and capability. The interview goes on for four days. The IQ level, Bravery level judged through physical tests, Conversation skills, Logics, level of responsibility, patriotic pride and leadership are main qualities, judged in this interview. Group tests and physical tests are also very important for a candidate to pass through successfully.
Group test is basically, divided into two parts, first a group discussion and the second by task officer on personal level followed by group discussion and lectures session to judge a candidate’s capability of expression. Finally, the candidates go for hurdle race, command tasks, and then final command tasks. Candidates go through deep question sessions to judge their mental standard. For joining armed forces, candidates are sent to I.M.A. Air Force Academy, Hyderabad or BTFS Allahabad for six months course.
