The Indian sarees are single piece of cloths running for about four to nine meters in length that are worn around the body of Indian women. This is the traditional women’s dress of India and is famous not only in India but also in the neighboring countries like Nepal, Sri Lanks, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Though the sarees are same the method of wearing it and the length varies from tradition to tradition and region to region.

There are so many types of Indian sarees and this classification is based on the material used to weave them and the artistic works done on them. Some of the types of sarees are designer sarees, embroidered sarees, lehenga sarees, silk sarees, chiffon sarees, georgette sarees, traditional Indian sarees, wedding saris, party wear sarees, etc. The artistic works are done on these sarees with the help of sequins, zardosis and resham works. These embellishments give an attractive look to the sarees. They are available in almost all the color shades in the Indian cloth stores.

The Indian sarees are worn with petticoats and blouses. The blouse is the jacket that is worn in the matching color and has to be stitched. You can ask the designer to design the blouses with the neckline model, sleeves type and other patterns of your choice and preferences. The petticoats are the base of the sarees. If you are wearing a light color sari, it is advisable to wear the petticoats in the same color. They are available readymade in the cloth stores in India.

Selecting a right sari is by itself an art. The printed sarees are quite inexpensive when compared to silk sarees and embroidered sarees. Kanchipuram and Benaras are famous for silk sarees. Those who are stout should avoid sarees of thicker materials as this would make them look stouter. Ladies who are dark skinned shall prefer light color saris and those who are fair may go for gaudy colors. Party wears are work sarees with greater embellishments and are gorgeous in their looks. The chiffon sarees, poonam sarees and other soft sarees with good color combinations are ideal for daily use. Cotton sarees are good to wear during summer season. If you want to be appreciated by others you must make a smart and wise selection of these Indian sarees.

They are worn around the hip and are supported by the petticoats. Few swirls in the front will make you to move along freely. The head portion of the sari or the pallu is brought again to the front and is pinned to the blouse. In some North Indian families like Rajputs and in Muslim families one portion of the sari is worn on the head to cover their hair. The sarees must be taken care of properly. Not all the Indian sarees are washable. Some of them are dry-washable and only a few types of them are machine washable and hand washable. Usually the natural silk sarees are not hand washable. The get spoilt and lose their original looks if you wash them with your hands. So it is quite difficult to maintain them. You have to check this with the seller before you purchase a particular type of sari. The Indian sarees reflect the taste of the Indian women and so they are selected with utmost care.
