SRK – The King Khan of Bollywood. Most recently Sana Saeed, who played daughter’s role of Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai commented that she would like to romance Shah Rukh onscreen. So, what’s that special in this actor so that even young actresses want to work with him? Either it is Katrina, Deepika or Anushka, who are 20+ years younger than him, it never makes a difference in their desire to work with him on Bollywood big screen. Their pairing has always resulted in blockbusters too. So, through this column let us travel through the past 22 years of SRK’s career to pick up the best co-actresses of this immensely popular actor of Bollywood, excluding the latest ones mentioned above.

The first name that comes to everyone’s mind is none other Kajol. Kajol and SRK have together given new definitions to Bollywood and modern romance. Their movies have always broken records one after the another. Baazigar, Karan Arjun, Dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge, Kuch kuch hota hai, Kabhi khushi kabhi ghum and My name is Khan; spanning in a time of two decades they have delivered 6 blockbusters to Bollywood and always remain the best Jodi of modern Bollywood.

Perhaps the second choice is a tie between Juhi Chawla and Rani Mukherjee. I am not sure, who’s name should be taken first. As Juhi is his best friend and together they are running a production company, I would like to take her name first. First hit of SRK was opposite Juhi – Raju ban gaya gentleman. It was a time when SRK was a new baby to Bollywood with no releases in hand while Juhi was the top actress of early 90’s, post the success of QSQT. Yet she agreed to work with him and there started this successful pair and a lovely friendship. Perhaps the most successful movie is of course, Darr directed by Yash Chopra, whom SRK often mentions as his mentor. They together have worked in a few more movies like Ram jaane, Duplicate, Phir phi dil hai Hindustani and Bhootnath.

Pairing of SRK and Rani started with Kuch kuch hota hai and till now, they have given many successful movies like Veer Zaara, Kabhi khushi kabhi gum (guest appearance), Kabhi alvida na kehna, Chalte chalte and Paheli. Can anyone forget SRK’s successful pairing with Priety Zinta? If Rani’s name is taken, Priety’s name should also be taken. After all, she debut Bollywood with Dil se opposite SRK. Their most successful movie up to date is Kal ho na ho, followed by Kabhi alvida na kehna.   

Before I conclude, let me take a few more leading ladies of SRK. Aiswarya Rai in Devdas and Mohabbatein and Karishma Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in Dil to pagal hai and Sushmita Sen in Mein hoon naa also need special mention.
