Earth is the only planet which supports life. It has all the factors for the existance of different plants, animals and human beings. Plants are the primary food 'Producers' which make their own food. They also clean the environment by taking up the Carbon di Oxide present in atmosphere and giving out Oxygen. They provide food for animals and human beings.
Animals in turn, for their part maintain the life cycle on earth. They act according to their instincts and help the environment and protect the eco-system. For example, there are many birds which eat fruits of trees and when the seeds come out they are fertile to grow. Birds propagate the growth of vegetation in different places. Animals take up only what is needed from the earth, if their cycle is unaltered.
Human beings are the main species that pollute the earth and bring about different problems to it. Earth is a fragile planet, like a glass ball. What do you think will happen, if I drop a glass ball on the floor? It will shatter into pieces, right? Do you think I can bring it back to its original shape? No. It is not possible. In the same manner once the earth gets damaged or polluted it cannot regain its originality. That is, all its resources and the life support it extends to us may be lost and might not be brought back at all. So it is our duty to save the earth for our own selves and the generations to come.
Going green is the only way to do it. Every one of us should take an oath, saying “Whatever I do I ensure I will not pollute the EARTH.” The first step in going green is adhering to the famous 3Rs, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Time and again we speak about these three. But do we follow them in our day to day life? Right from the food we eat, the dresses we wear, the place we live in and the umpteen numbers of things we buy from shops, we can apply the principle of “Reduce”.
We should avoid buying things only for the sake of buying. They will end up in our show-case or get dumped in the cup-boards. Instead of giving costly gifs which is not going to be of any use to our friends and relatives on their birthdays, we can present a beautiful handmade gift. Instead of buying toys that use batteries, we can make our children fly a kite outdoors and enjoy their day. Children could be made to play traditional games, which will not consume any electricity or pollute the surroundings in any way.
Reuse things that can be put to another use. Using your creativity you can reuse several things that could no longer be put the use for which they are meant. For example, a worn out tyre can be turned into a flower pot for a container garden. Boxes in which dresses come packed, can be used for storing different things. You can decorate them also.
Recycle things like plastic, metals, cloth etc. One small step which we take today towards keeping our environment today, will mean a lot to our future generations. So let’s give it a thought.
