Chinese tourists and India

Almost 50 million Chinese go to different places for different reasons including business and travel for fun the world over but the number of tourists to India from China is limited to 100,000 only. This is less than 0.2% share of tourists out of total Chinese going to other countries, which is alarmingly low although Indians go to China in far bigger numbers compared to Chinese.

Let us have a look on Visitors to India

I have figures available for the year 2010 right now which says India received almost 6.3 million tourists from different countries most of these were from the United States of America, almost a million, tourists from Britain were almost as much with figures of 0.8 million. Bangladesh took third spot with four lack sixty thousands whereas the number of Chinese tourists stood at one lack and forty thousands only. Most of the Chinese tourists visiting India come for business purpose while some of these come to meet their relatives settled in India particularly in Kolkata for long time.

Compared to tourists from other countries we do not get many tourists from China for obvious reasons. We neither have the required facilities which Chinese are looking for in tourists destinations nor our government is doing enough to attract tourists from different countries especially from Asia where we could do far better if we concentrate on marketing strategies. The fact is most Chinese going to other countries for spending their time for fun purpose prefer to go to European and American or to countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines etc but India is their last choice.

Chinese are going to places

Chinese are going to different countries as tourists and business purpose and they spend good money on their visits abroad. Last year Chinese spent close to $ 7.3 for their traveling purpose, which stands at third place after Germany and America as far spending money for travel purpose is concerned. And if are unable to get a proper share with our rich culture especially Buddhism the Chinese culture, there should be serious lack of understanding or technical problems which stop them coming to India their closest neighbors. Probably our visa policies are not suitable and need to be amended soon to attract Chinese that will help not only increase revenue but also better relations with China.
