Ashutosh Rana Biography
Ashutosh Rana is a successful villain of Bollywood, most known for his distinct looks and acting style. Among his performances, negative roles of Dushman and Sangursh are noted most. He has appeared in many movies in supporting roles as well. Film actress and television anchor Renuka Shahane is his wife.
Ashutosh Rana belongs to Gadarwara of Madhya Pradesh and during his childhood days he used to perform Ravan’s role in Ram Leela. Later he went to National school of Drama at New Delhi from where he learnt acting. Once the completion of course, he was advised by his guru Dadda ji to go to Mumbai and meet Mahesh Bhatt. He was offered a role in Doordarshan serial Swabhimaan and he accepted it, thus starting his acting career. Then he acted in a series of Doordarshan serials including Waris, Farz, Dhund, Apradhi kyon, Sazish and Kabhi Kabhi. He anchored a television show – Baazi kiski as well.
He debut Bollywood by doing small roles in movies like Shamshodan and Krishna Arjun. He achieved the role of a contract killer in Pooja Bhatt’s movie Tamanna. But it was the role of psychopath killer in the movie Dushman that made him an unforgettable face of Bollywood screen. Audience were shocked seeing the tremendous performance of a cold blooded murderer and rapist in the Kajol-Sanjay Dutt starrer movie and it can be said that no one can do that role better than him. He did the role with 100% perfection and won Star screen awards as well as Filmfare awards for negative role for the movie ‘Dushman’. His expressive eyes and mannerisms was something new to Bollywood screen.
He repeated the same performance once again in a little more frightening manner in the movie Sangursh the following year. It was something like extension of his role in Dushman. Leading actors were Priety Zinta and Akshay Kumar and again, for the role of serial murderer who abuses and kills children, he won his second Filmfare awards, that too in the consecutive year. He won Zee Cine Awards as well.
His other movies include Ghulam, Zakham, Ab ke baras, Karz, Dil pardesi ho gaya, Dhoka, Awarapan, Kasoor, Annarth, Gunah, Jaanwar and Raaz. He is successful in Marathi and Telugu movies as well.
