Bharani (Music Director) Biography

Bharani is a music composer and track composer associated with south Indian films, predominantly in Tamil language compositions. His real name is Gunasekaran. He has also rendered his voice for a few of his films like Thirudia Idhayathai and wrote lyrics too. Periyanna (1999) marked his film debut, followed by Paarvai Ondre Podhume (2001) and Charlie Chaplin (2002). He has composed songs for more than 20 films, mostly belonging to Tamil language. He is credited to writing lyrics for Vijay’s first onscreen film song - Naalaiya Theerpu (1992) and he used his real name – Gunasekaran.  Vairan (2015) – is his latest work as a music composer.

 

He was born in Arundhavapuram, a small village of Tanjur district, Tamil Nadu on 9th June 1971. Swamy Ayya and Chinnammaal are his parents and he had two siblings – Manoharan and Baskaran. He studied till 10th standard. He is married to Sumithra and the couple has one son - Sakthi Pragatheesh. He was interested in music since his younger days and used to compose songs during school days. Gradually he developed an interest in Tamil film industry and thus he came to Chennai in 1989.

 

He started his career as a lyricist for Naalaiya Theerpu (1992). Later his name was changed to Bharani (his birth star as per south Indian astrology) by S. A. Chandrasekar who gave him a chance to compose music for Periyanna (1999) marked his film debut as a music director. ‘Nilavey Nilavey’ was his first recorded song at AVM studio. His second project was Parvai Onraey Podhumae which was a super hit. Since then he has composed songs for more than 20 films. He loves compositions of early music director G. Ramanathan Iyer to latest Vidyasagar. Yet Illayaraja is the composer who inspired him most.
