H. Ramakrishnan Biography

H. Ramakrishnan is a senior journalist who is currently the CEO of SS Music television channel. He belongs to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He has over 40 years of journalism experience. He has worked with Doordarshan, Thiruvananthapuram and All India Radio and has served as Press Information Bureau and Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity. For Tamil Nadu people, he is still familiar as a newscaster who has been popular for distinct and crystal clear voice. He was affected by polio at the age of 2 and both his legs are disabled.

He was born on December 25, 1941 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was affected by polio at the age of 2. Both his legs were disabled. So, he was denied admission in different schools. He passed UPSC Exams and tried job in journalism. But he has to severe oppositions for being handicapped when he tried the posts of news reader, translator or reporter. He was about 85% disability. Yet he travelled by bus till he owned a side car scooter. Later on he used to drive an auto rickshaw with a hand brake. This auto rickshaw was specially fitted for him by Bajaj Auto Ltd. When it was mentioned of his physical disabilities in Ramakrishnan's confidential report, he went to meet the then President of India, V. V. Giri who passed an order to change that rule.

He runs a charitable trust called Krupa that helps disabled persons to buy hearing aids, walking sticks, tricycles and calipers. H. Ramakrishnan has been a great source of inspiration for many newsreaders who later joined the field. He has also interviewed many leading politicians and celebrities. As a musician, he has conducted live concerts also.
