Letika Saran Biography 
Letika Saran is an Indian police officer who served as the 36th Commissioner of Police in Chennai thus becoming the first woman to head a metropolitan police organization in India.
Letika was born on 31st March 1952 in Idukki in Kerala. She was one of the first two women to join the Indian Police Service in 1976. She served as the Additional Director General of Police and Training and Project Director of Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Inspector General of Police and Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. She was promoted as the Commissioner of Police on 20th April 2006.
When she was made as the Director General of Police on 8th January 2010, she became the second female DGP of a state in India. She is the first woman DGP of Tamil Nadu. She was then challenged by another police claiming his seniority. The case was filed in Madras High Court and as per the judgment she was re appointed on 27th November 2010. She retired in April 2012.
