Manjari Makijany Biography
Manjari Makijany is a writer, director and producer associated with Hindi and American movies. She is the daughter of legendary villain of Bollywood screen, Mac Mohan and also the cousin of Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon. As a film maker, she is best known for her award winning short films, The Last Marble (2012) and The Corner Table (2014). She has worked as an Assistant Director on Bollywood films Wake Up Sid and Saat Khoon Maaf, before she moved on to independent film making. 7-minute silent film, The Last Marble (2012) was her debut work.
Manjari Makijany hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra. She is the daughter of popular character artist, Mac Mohan of Sholay fame. She worked as Assistant Director on Indian films Wake Up Sid and Saat Khoon Maaf in the late 2000s before marking her independent film journey. She also worked as assistant director on two international projects — Batman: The Dark Knight Rises and Hexxe Lilli. As a filmmaker she started off by making several award winning short films, premiered at different film festivals across the globe.
Her debut film, The Last Marble (2012) was a 7-minute silent film. She scripted and directed the film. It was premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival winning the hearts of audience and critics, and also won International awards for ‘Best Film’ at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The eight-minute film was up against 200 entries. The short film was later screened in over 30 International festivals, winning many awards and distinctions.
The Corner Table (2014) featuring Tom Alter was her second film. It won ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Special Jury Mention’ at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival New Delhi (2014), apart from a nomination for best short film. It was included in Cannes Short Film Corner and also received a nomination for best short film at New York Indian Film Festival (2014).
