Mukesh Khanna Biography

Mukesh Khanna is widely regarded as the first super hero of Indian television. Though this actor was in limelight with his role as Bhishma in Mahabharata and Jaanbaaz in Chandrakanta, it was Sakthimaan, telecasted in Doordarshan that gave him ‘super hero’ image. Till then he was known for his role as Bhishma. But this single television serial not only gave him super stardom, but also a huge fan following and his fan club contained children most. But the truth is that Shakthimaan, telecasted during 1997-2005 was loved by people belonging to all age group. Both the roles – as Pandit Gangadhar Shastri and Shaktimaan entertained fun loving crowd a lot.

He was born on 23 June, 1958, in Mumbai. He graduated from Film and Television Institute of India and joined film industry in the year 1982. His career saw a huge uplift when he played the most powerful role of the most popular television serial of 1980’s – Mahabharata. He was casted the same way in his next Doordarshan serial, Chandrakanta also. This serial too, was the top rated program of Doordarshan during middle 1990’s. His role as Kunwar’s friend, Jaabaaz appealed millions. Shaktiman was the top feather of his acting crown. Till then, Indians have viewed super hero films and serials of Hollywood, dubbed in their regional languages; for instance, He-man, Super Man and Spider Man. Shaktimaan was something new and fresh to Indian audience. Its name too, had a striking similarity with other ruling ‘Super men’.

Other noted serials of Mukesh Khanna are Aryamaan – Brahmaand Ka Yodha, The Great Maratha, Viswamitra, Marshaal, Ehsaas,Brahma, Virat, Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya, Kal Hamara Hai, Saraab, Sautela, Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara and Maryaada. Most recently he was offered the role of Shantanu in Ekta Kapoor’s Mahabharata, but he declined the role. Khanna has also appeared in a few movies like Barsaat, raja, Guddu, Gang, Hera pheri and Bal brahmachari.
