Pradeep Sarkar Biography

Pradeep Sarkar is a Bollywood director who shot to fame with the debut work, Parinita released in 2005. He also worked as Art Director, Writer and Screenplay writer for the same movie. Vidya Balan made her big screen debut through this movie and earned many awards and appreciations. This love triangle also starred Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. It was followed by Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007), Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007) and Lafangey Parindey (2010) though the movies were not able to replicate the success of his debut movie. In 2005, he won Filmfare Best Art Direction for his debut movie, Parineeta. The same movie also earned him Zee Cine Award for Most Promising Director and National award for Best First Film of a Director. He also received a nomination at Filmfare for best director.

He graduated from Delhi College of Art in 1979 with a gold medal. Then he joined Tulika Advertising Agency as Creative Supervisor. He began his career in Contract Advertising, Delhi and worked in ad stream for 17 years before identifying his real passion and dream. He was the Associate Vice President Creative when he quit the job and ad-film making. He started a new banner ‘Fatman Films’ wunder which he produced his first ad on Kelvinator refrigerator. He has been associated with numerous ads while at Delhi.

He made 1000 television commercials, 15 music videos and a few feature film songs before making his directorial venture Parineeta. His debut work is regarded as an emotional, visual and musical treat. This movie owned maximum nominations at various categories in different award functions the same year. He received the ‘Hottest Young Director’ Awards’ in Stardust awards in 2006. Though a part of Bollywood right now, Sarkar is busy with his ad films too.
