Praveen Swami Biography
Praveen Swami is an Indian journalist and author. The Indian Express’ National (strategic affairs) editor, Praveen also serves as the Resident Editor of its New Delhi edition. Prior to it, he was associated with The Hindu in 2013. He is a specialist on regional security issues, and has authored two books on India-Pakistan conflict, ‘An Informal War: India, Pakistan and the Secret Jihad in Jammu and Kashmir’ and ‘The Kargil War’. Prior to his association with The Hindu, he served as the Diplomatic Editor of The Daily Telegraph. Described by the BBC as "one of India's foremost experts of Islamist terrorism", he is India’s one of the leading journalists as well.
Praveen was born in the year 1969. He started off as the Associate Editor of The Hindu in March 1993 and worked with the daily till September 2010. In 2010 he joined The Daily Telegraph as Diplomatic Editor, and the following year he moved to The Hindu once again. Now he served as the Resident Editor New Delhi during the period October 2011 – March 2013. He later became Strategic Affairs Editor & Resident Editor New Delhi before he moved to Indian Express as National Editor (Strategic and International Affairs).
In a journalist career that spans to more than two decades, Praveen has also won many awards and accolades. He is a recipient of Sanskriti Samman Award in 1999, for his investigation series on Kargil conflicts and its legal proceedings. Prem Bhatia Memorial Award for Political Journalism in 2003 and Indian Express- Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism prize in 2006 are the other major awards received by him. He also serves as an independent member of Delhi’s Security Commission and is a History reader at King’s College, Cambridge University.
