Preetika Rao Biography
Preetika Rao is an Indian actress, model, film-journalist and writer of Mangalore origin. She has appeared in many television ads and made her big screen debut through 2010 Tamil flick - Chikku Bukku, followed by Priyudu in Telugu. Currently she plays the role of Aaliya Zain Abdullah in Hindi television series, Beintehaa. She received the Best Debut Actress Award at Zee Gold Awards 2014 for her role in this television series, aired on ZEE Network. She is the younger sister of successful actress of Bollywood, Amrita Rao of Mein hoon na and Vivaah fame. As a successful model, she has been crowned Miss Asia 2011 at the International World Beauty Awards – 2011.
She was born in a Konkani-speaking family in Mumbai. Her father owns an advertising agency. Her elder sister Amrita is already an established star of Bollywood. She graduated in History from Sophia College and also did a diploma in advertising and journalism. She started modelling during her college days. Cadbury Dairy Milk was her first shot ad. Preetika is also a columnist of ‘South Side’ Film magazine and many leading Indian magazines like Mumbai Mirror, Deccan Chronicle, Asian Age etc.
She made her film debut through Tamil romantic flick - Chikku Bukku (2010), where she played the role of a Tamil Brahmin girl. She played lead role aside Arya and Shriya Saran in this romantic flick. Priyudu (2011) was her second release. Then she enrolled in a school in Los Angeles to do a screenwriting and filmmaking course. She took a temporary break from the industry too. She made a comeback through Television in 2014 serial, Beintehaa.
