Rahul Mishra Biography
Rahul Mishra is an Indian fashion designer based in Mumbai and Delhi, now internationally popular. He won International Woolmark Prize at Milan Fashion Week most recently in 2014 and is the first Indian fashion designer to win this prestigious award. This award was previously won by designers like Karl Lagerfield and Giorgio Armani. In 2008, he was awarded the MTV Youth Icon of the Year by MTV India. Apart from major cities of India, he has done fashion weeks in London, Dubai and Australia. He is most known for co-operating Indian traditional dresses with his creativity and additions.
Mishra was born in Malhausie, a small town near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh in the year 1979. He graduated in physics from Kanpur University. Then he completed post-graduation from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad in the year 2005. He passed out winning Best Student Designer of the Year award. In 2009, he became the first non-European designer to win a scholarship at Istituto Marangoni, Milani, Italy. He is the only Indian designer to be chosen by Rent the Runway, online rental boutique.
He debut Indian fashion industry in 2006 at the Lakme Fashion Week. He presented a traditional collection of cotton handloom from Kerala. Off-white Neriyathu (fabric) with golden border of Kerala set mundu was the highlight of his displayed collection. This traditional collection won him applause and appreciation. In 2009, he combined Kerala set mundu on one side, with Banarasi fabric of the other side, that too woven in traditional method. In 2013, he won the Indian edition of the International Woolmark Prize and thus got opportunity to represent India in 2014 Woolmark Prize where he was elected as winner also.
