Surojit Chatterjee Biography
Surojit Chatterjee is a popular musician, lyricist, singer and music composer associated with Bengali film industry. He is a percussionist quite capable of playing a series of music instruments such as English flute, recorder, blues, harp, guitar, mandolin, banjo, whistler, castanets, dotara, dubki, khamak and a few more. Surojit is also a part of the popular Bengali band – Bhoomi, where he is the lead singer. Apart from releasing private albums like Folkira, he also composed music for Bengali movies like Ichhe, Muktodhara, Handa and Bhonda. He also owns a band - Surojit O Bondhura.
Surojit Chatterjee was born in Rampurhat. His schooling was done at Birbhum, followed by Kolkata. Surojit got interested in music at a very young age and he started playing tabla by the age of 7. He later learnt to play music instruments from Tuhin Chatterjee, Amyt Datta etc. He formed his first music band while at college and named it as Grassroot. Currently he owns his own brand, Surojit O Bondhura. Since college days he participated in many music competitions and won many prizes.
He formed the band Bhoomi in 1999, aside Soumitra Ray and same year they made their stage debut. The band helped him to earn recognition as a musician and singer and very soon he received offers from film industry also. The music band has successfully completed 16 years in the music industry and has released 12 popular albums. Jatra Shuru was the debut album released in the year 2000, followed by Udaan and Isspecial. In 2012 he formed his solo band - Surojit O Bondhura. His wife Kamalinee Chatterjee is a lyricist who has penned many songs for his band.
