Urmila Kanetkar Biography
Urmila Kanetkar is a Marathi film actress who works in Hindi and Marathi television serials too. She is a trained classical dancer too and an expert in Kathak. Shubh Mangal Savadhan is her most successful Marathi film and Asambhav, Uun Paus and Goshta Eka Lagnachi are her popular television roles in Marathi. As a Hindi television actress, her noted roles are Maayka and Mera Sasural. In the years 2007 and 2008, she was nominated for best actress in Marathi television for her role in Asambhav as Shubhra/Parvati. Urmila Kanetkar is married to Marathi Actor Aadinath Kothare, son of Famous Marathi Filmmaker Mahesh Kothare. They got married in the year 2011. Her mother Neelima Kanetkar is a retired advocate. As a performer, she is most active in charity shows.
Urmila Kanetkar started her career as a Kathak dancer. Ballet Azadi Ki Jung which was done during India’s Golden Jubilee celebrations of Independence Day was one of her earliest live performances. Apart from Kathak, she is a good performer in Odissi too. She learnt this art form from Sujata Mahapatra. Her mother Neelima Kanetkar is a retired advocate who found an organization called Aadipath, which promotes anti-dowry and works against domestic violence against women. Neelima is an advocate who works for divorces in such cases as well. Nowadays Urmila performs for charity shows for her mother’s NGO and has taken a break from commercial shows.
Urmila entered big screen with 2006 movie, Shubh Mangal Savaadhan. It was followed by Aai Shappath and Saavali. Later she appeared in a few television serials like Maayka and Mera Sasural in Hindi and Gosht Eka Lagnachi, Vegh and Assambhav in Marathi. She played lead role in Marathi serial Asambhav for which she gained television audience’ appreciation as well as a couple of nominations at ZEE Marathi awards.
