The city of Kodaikanal is located in the Dindigul district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Over the years this has developed into one of the favorite and popular hill stations in India. There is a very rare blend of climatic pleasantness and natural or scenic beauty that is available at Kodaikanal.
There is a beautiful landscape comprising of grasslands and meadows that are available by the gradient of the hills in Kodaikanal. It is a plateau region that is located on the Palani Hills of the Western Ghats of India. At the center of the basin that is formed in the valley is the Kodaikanal Lake.
Upon reaching Kodaikanal the first feature that will capture your thoughts is the natural beauty of the place. There are large trees of eucalyptus and other trees that form light woods with cascading streams of water amidst small rocks that are there. Natural waterfalls are also seen in number at different places. You will be amazed to see the variety of flower beds that grow at different gardens and other places as well.
You can take a trip to see the Bear Shola waterfalls. The sight is truly spectacular and is also a favorite place as a picnic spot. You can also come here in the monsoon season and during rain. The waterfall is resplendent in its beauty at the time.
Another popular place for day trips and picnics is that of Berijam Lake. This is alike to an untamed natural reserve where you can see bisons, deer and leopards. And to add to the beauty of the place there is a wide variety of birds too that are seen here. You will need to take proper and prior permission from the office of the forest officer of the district for visiting the place.
There is a botanical garden that’s named Bryant Park and is a popular place to visit. It is named after the person who designed the park and its landscape arrangements. There is a wide range of flowers that can be found here. You will also get to see a beautiful glass house that keeps ornamented plants, ferns and flowers.
You will also find an amazing view of the place at a point of the Silent Valley View. This is also in close proximity to the pillar rocks that are there in Kodaikanal. These rock pillars are granite stones that stand vertically alongside each other and go up to a height of 400 meters above ground level. The chambers that can be seen between the gaps of the pillars are referred to as the Devil’s Kitchen.
Kodaikanal is easily reachable by airways with the nearest airports at Madurai and Coimbatore. Kodai Road is the nearest railway station from where you will be able to get various trains. Taxis and bus services are also commonly available.
