Sikandar Bagh was previously known as Secundra Bagh and it is a villa within a garden built by the last Nawab of Awadh, Wajid Ali Shah to be used as a summer residence. Sikandar Mahal Begum was the wife of the Nawab and this was named after her. Within its walls more than 2000 soldiers were killed during the revolt of 1857.

The National Botanical Research Institute is functioning now within its premises. Nawab Saadat Ali Khan designed this royal garden around the building and was later improved by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. This is one storied building with central pavilion, east bastion and gateway. Uda Devi statue was erected in the garden. She was a Persian lady who stood on the side of the besieged mutineers during the revolt of 1857 and fought with a gun and finally shot to dead.
