Kuber Nath Rai Biography
Kuber Nath Rai was a Hindi writer and Sanskrit scholar. He was a recipient of numerous honours including Moortidevi Award, annually presented by the Bharatiya Jnanpith, a literary and research organisation, to an author. Rai lived during the period, 26 March 1933 – 5 June 1996. Gandha Madan, Priya neel-kanti, Ras Aakhetak, Vishad Yog etc are his notable works. He was also an academician by profession and retired as principal from Swami Sahajanand Mahavidyalaya. He authored many non-fiction works including essays. He also published poetry and research works.
Kuber Nath Rai was born on 26 March 1933 in Matsa Village, Dildarnagar Kamsar, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, British India. He belonged to a Brahmin family, and his father’s name is Vakunth Narayan Rai. He completed his school education from a local school of his village and matriculation from Queen's College, Varanasi. He graduated from Banaras Hindu University, and completed his PG in English from Calcutta University. After completing his studies, he taught at many colleges, along with his literal career.
He initially taught at Vikram Vishvavidyalaya for a brief period before moving to Nalbari, Assam. He worked at Nalbari College, Assam as a lecturer in English Department during 1958 - 1986. Later he worked at Swami Sahajanand Mahavidyalaya for many years (nearly one decade) and retired as principal in 1995. Later he continued with his writings.
Many of his books have been published by Bharatiya Jnanpith, New Delhi. Some of his published works include - Priya Neelkanthi, Andhkaar Mein Agnishikha, Ras Aakhetak, Mahakavi ki Tarjani, Treta ka vrihatsaam, Maraal, Patr: Maniputul ke naam, Ramayana Mahateertham, Kanthamani etc. His love for natural beauty, agriculture and Indian folk literatures are visible through his works.
