Pranav Chopra Biography
Pranav Chopra is an Indian badminton player, and is a member of India national badminton team since 2007. He has won many international matches for team India. He along with N. Sikki Reddy won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in mixed doubles in 2016. The duo also won Brazil and Russia Open Grand Prix title in the mixed doubles event the same year. In the year 2018, at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games he won the gold medal in mixed matches. He reached his highest ranking of 28 in MD 24 November 2016 and 13 in XD 23 March 2017.
His full name is Pranaav Jerry Chopra. He was born on 6 September 1992 at Mullanpur Dakha, Ludhiana in Punjab. He started training at the age of 7. He became the national champion twice in the boys’ doubles U-13 and U-19 events, which brought him to limelight. At the U-19 level, he won the title 9 times which is a national record. While at hometown he trains at Badminton Academy in the Shastri Hall, at Ludhiana. For advanced training he moved to south and joined Gopichand Badminton Academy, Hyderabad. He preferred to play doubles and mixed doubles instead of singles matches, and concentrated on to double matches, men’s and mixed.
Under his mentor Pullela Gopichand, he own many national level and international titles over the years. In the Youth Commonwealth Games, Pune, he received bronze. He was a recipient of two gold medals as a team member of South Asian Games 2016 Guwahati-Shillong. Paired with his mixed doubles partner, Gadde Ruthvika Shivani he defeated Sri Lankan mixed doubles team in the finals of Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, 2018.
