The name of this place has relevance with a temple here which has a very big association between two deities namely Lord Shiva and Kumari Amman. Because she could not marry Lord Shiva she promised to be a virgin right through her life as a spinster. This is how this enchanting place got this name. Cape Comorin, as also this place is known as, has been a tourist-puller. It is not a religious place for a single community but a dwelling place for all Indians and tourists who would fancy seeing nature presenting itself in the most breath-taking way.
This place is packed with tourist attractions; Vivekananda Memorial, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, Tiruvalluvar statue to mention a few. Vivekananda rock is a spectacular place to be when you visit this place since you can be at a touching distance from the waters that gush into the leeway between the rocks. The aforementioned statue of Tiruvalluvar is 133 feet which was raised to recognize his achievement of writing 1330 verses grouped into 133 sections. Since this place is surrounded by seas you can expect to have a peek at some of the best sights when sun rises in the outbreak of dawn. Conversely, when the sun sets, the sight of the red ball coinciding with the farthest point of eye sight is a real pleasure.
