Ankita Bhambri Biography

Ankita Bhambri is a former professional tennis player from Delhi. Her highest career singles ranking is World No. 332, when she reached at her career peak in May 2006. She received her career best doubles ranking in October 2005, when she reached World No. 229. Many of her family members and close relatives belonging to her generation have chosen this field as their professional, and achieved success. Her sister Sanaa Bhambri, brother Yuki Bhambri and cousins Prerna Bhambri and Prateek Bhambri are also professional tennis players.

 

In her professional career, Ankita has earned a total of 9 ITF Women's Circuit singles and 8 doubles titles. She got opportunity to play at prestigious WTA Tour 5 times, though couldn’t make any major wins. Ankita Bhambri has a win–loss record of 8–14 at Fed Cup representing her country. Now she has retired from her active professional career. She played throughout 2000s and remained in her career peak during 2005-2006.

 

Ankita was born in New Delhi on 28 October 1986. She was born to Chander and Indu. She turned pro in the year 2000. She got fully active in the profession since early 2000s. She is a Right Handed (Double Handed Backhand) player. Arun Kumar was her early coach. She has won single titles at major Indian cities like New Delhi (2006 and 2009), Aurengabad (2007), Mumbai (2006), Kolkata (2004) and Pune (2005). She also registered double title wins at New Delhi, Khonkan, Noida, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. In the international circuit too, she has registered many wins. Her single wins outside India include – London (2005), Lagos (2005), Khon Kaen (2008) etc.
