Niranjan Shah Biography

Niranjan Shah is a former cricketer turned administrator from Gujarat. He is a successful businessman too. Played domestic cricket in India, he has been associated with Saurashtra from 1965 to 1975. He currently serves as the honorary secretary of the Saurashtra Cricket Association. He played 12 First Class matches scoring 281 runs at a batting average of 11.7 and 45 runs is his top score. As an administrator he is known for the progress of Saurashtra region in Indian cricket. He has given huge contributions to the field. He also put efforts to make Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium a venue for test and IPL matches in India. Thus he played a significant role in bringing IPL matches to Rajkot.

 

His full name is Niranjan Rasiklal Shah. He was born on 4 June 1944 in Rajkot, Gujarat. He started playing cricket while doing his graduation studies at Dharmendra College. He played cricket matches at college level and later went on to become captain at Saurashtra University. Since 1965 he got actively involved with domestic cricket playing several test matches for Saurashtra. After a decade of association as a cricket batsman he later turned an administrator. Though he has played FC matches, his contributions are counted in terms of his administration of Saurashtra cricket.

 

He became the honorary secretary of Saurashtra Cricket Association in 1972 and serves the position till now. He has been elected as the honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India four times. Vice-president of BCCI from West Zone and vice-chairman of Indian Premier League are the other major positions held by him. He completed more than 40 years in cricket administration and is still active in this role.
