Sreedhanya Suresh Biography

Sreedhanya Suresh is the first tribal woman from Kerala to crack UPSC civil services exam. She got 410th rank in Civil Service Exams in 2019. She hails from Wyanad, the Kerala district with highest population of tribal people. She belongs to a very humble background, and was born to poor labourers, who supported her in her mission to crack UPSC civil services exam in her third attempt.

 

Sreedhanya Suresh hails from Wyanad, Kerala. She was born into a poor tribal family as the daughter of Suresh and Kamala. Both her parents are uneducated and daily waged labourers who earn a living through selling bows and arrows in a local market. As they faced insults throughout their life due to lack of education, they were determined to make their daughters well-educated. She scored only 69% during her matriculation. But through her hard work and dedication, she got 410th rank in her third attempt, thus creating history. She was congratulated by Lok Sabha Candidate Rahul Gandhi and many other top personalities of the society for her achievement. Throughout these years many have financially helped her for her studies, and the family also received help for daily purchases.

 

This 25-year-old woman belongs to the Kurichiya tribe of Wyanad. She is the first tribal woman from Kerala to have cleared the UPSC exam. Dhanya has three siblings. The family lives in an unfurnished home and depends on MNREGA scheme to meet both ends. Despite the hardship, the parents never compromised on their education and tried their best to provide best coaching and other essentials.  She pursued graduation in Zoology from St Joseph’s College, Kozhikode and post-graduation from Calicut University. After studies she also worked for small salaried jobs before she fully concentrated on UPSC exams.
