Yasin Bhatkal Biography
Yasin Bhatkal was the founder leader of the proscribed terrorist organisation - Indian Mujahideen. Listed on the NIA Most Wanted back then, he was arrested at India-Nepal border near Motihari. He has been sentenced to death by a NIA court in Hyderabad on 19 December 2016. He was 33 years old when he was sentenced to death. He was given criminal charges of Sedition and Criminal conspiracy and was convicted in 2013. His real name is Mohammed Ahmed Siddibappa, and he was named Yasin Bhatkal by Indian investigative agencies.
Yasin Bhatkal was born on 15 January 1983 in Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada, Karnataka. Zarar Siddibapa and Rehana were his parents. He did his schooling till class 10th, but couldn’t clear board exams and left for Dubai in November 2005. By early 2007, his parents also lost his contact. He was already married to a girl, to whom he had hidden his identity and told as Imran hailing from Lucknow. In 2010 he took the name of Dr. Shahrukh, a Unani Doctor and settled at Pokhara, Nepal.
He was accused of direct involvement in over 10 separate bombings in India, which include - 2008 Delhi bombings and the 2010 Varanasi blasts. He was also accused of taking an important role in 2006 Mumbai serial train bombings. Many of his alleged associates got arrested and Bihar police began investigating Fasih Mehmood's possible role in the cell. Police also doubted if he planted one of the bombs on Jangli Maharaj, Pune.
Finally police managed to trace him in India - Nepal Border. A team of undercover Indian police continuously worked on it and succeeded in the mission to catch him. In the initial interrogation, Bhatkal admitted to recruiting young men from Bihar for terror attacks. He also revealed his involvement in the 2011 triple blasts in Mumbai. 2019 Hindi film India's Most Wanted is inspired from his arrest by uncover police.
