Gary Lawyer Biography
Gary Lawyer is a New York based singer associated with western music, but of Indian origin. He is associated with pop, blues and jazz forms of music. Also known as “The man with a golden voice” among Indians, he has preferred to stay away from Bollywood music. He is the first Indian to be signed for a western album outside India. He started his career as a nightclub singer in New York City, and later established himself as a leading name of pop music in the western arena. He regularly performs in different parts of the world, and also conducts musical shows in major cities of India.
Gary Lawyer is born in Mumbai, India in 1959. He completed his studies in New York city, where he started his singing career at a nightclub. Later Lawyer made a name for himself with rock music. He is the first Indian artist to be signed for a western album outside India, and his first English music video "Nights on Fire" was played on MTV. It was the first English song / music video to be played in India. He has a huge fan following crowd in India, who address him as “The man with a golden voice”.
As he is not exposed to the genre of Bollywood music or playback singing, he is not much interested in this version. Yet he has rendered his voice for a few Bollywood songs, for the movies – Road, Corporate, Sacred Evil – A True Story (Indian English film) and Jahan Tum Le Chalo. Some of his popular songs include - "Arrow in the Dust", "Highway to Heaven", "Nights on Fire", "This Cannot Wait", "The Other Side of Dawn", "Deep Blue Dusk" and "Indian Summer".
