Rajesh Verma (politician) Biography
Rajesh Verma is an Indian politician from the state of Uttar Pradesh, affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party. He currently serves as a parliamentarian in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi and represents Sitapur constituency. He is a 4-time parliamentarian from UP and one of the prominent national leaders from the state. He got elected to Lok Sabha in 1999, 2004, 2014 and 2019. In 2009 general elections he lost to Indian National Congress candidate Jitin Prasada from Dhaurahra (Lok Sabha constituency). He was associated with Bahujan Samaj Party for almost 22 years before changing his affiliation to Bharatiya Janata Party in December 2013.
Rajesh Verma was born on 6 November 1960 in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. Krishna Pal Singh Verma and Sudha Devi Verma are his parents. He is married to Ranjana Verma since 1981 and has three kids. He graduated from Lucknow University and completed his masters from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University. His active political career started in 1996. He unsuccessfully contested state assembly elections from Behta (now Sevata) constituency as Bahujan Samaj Party candidate. He lost by a huge margin of 13,294 votes.
In 1999 he turned a parliamentarian for the first time as a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from Sitapur constituency, defeating Janardan Prasad Mishra of Bharatiya Janata Party. He retained Sitapur seat in 2004 general elections. In 2009 he changed his constituency to Dhaurahra and lost it. He lost to Indian National Congress candidate Jitin Prasada by the margin of 1,84,509 votes. In December 2013, he quit BSP and joined BJP. The following year he got elected to parliament as a BJP candidate, once again from Sitapur. He retained the seat in 2019 general elections too.
