S. S. Palanimanickam Biography
S. S. Palanimanickam is an Indian politician from the state of Tamil nadu, affiliated to DMK Party. He currently serves as a parliamentarian in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi and represents Thanjavur constituency of Tamil Nadu. He got elected to parliament in 2019 general elections and since 1996 he has won the same constituency 6 times in a row. Now it is his 6th consecutive term as an MP from the same constituency of Tamil Nadu. With this win he is serving as the MP of Thanjavur constituency for more than 25 years in a row. He also served as a cabinet minister of PM Manmohan Singh.
S. S. Palanimanickam was born on 15 August 1950 in Nattani village, Pudukkottai, Madras State. His father was associated with Congress party. He got into active politics in the mid-1960s as a teenager. He joined DMK in 1965 and has a long term association with the party. During his teens he participated in Anti-Hindi agitation of 1965. He was keen in the uplift of backward classes and weaker sections of the society since then. During 2004–2013 under Manmohan Singh’s ministry he served as Minister of State for Finance for a long time.
S. S. Palanimanickam and S. Jagathrakshakan – two veteran leaders of Tamil Nadu affiliated to DMK party were born exactly on the same day. Interestingly it is Independence Day of year 1950 when both were born, and both are serving as Parliamentarians in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi. They have worked together in Parliament multiple times earlier too, in the past two decades.
