Roopa Revathi Biography
Roopa Revathi is an Indian musician and playback singer from south India. She is an accomplished violinist and plays different music instrument too. She started her professional career as a playback singer in the Malayalam movie Madampi in 2008 and later recorded songs for Tamil and Kannada films too. Roopa was the winner of Super Star Global, a musical talent hunt show hosted by Amrita TV in 2007, and it shot her to instant fame and made her a recognized figure in south Indian music circle. Apart from classical genres of music, she is also associated with fusion as well as world music.
Roopa Revathi hails from Ernakulam, Kerala, and her full name is Roopa Kunnummel Ramapai. She was born on 31 July 1984. She started learning Carnatic music at the age of 5. She learned vocal music under renowned gurus, Malini Hariharan and Tamarakkadu Govindan Namboothiri, and currently continuing vocal music training from veteran singers, P. Unni Krishnan and M. Jayachandran. Roopa started learning violin at the age of 7. She started her musical lessons from T. H. Subrahmaniyam. Currently she is learning the music instrument from Embar S. Kannan.
She is one of the rare artists from music industry who earned success and fame from two genres of music – as a singer/vocalist and musician/guitarist. After winning the reality show Super Star Global in 2007, she got her first break to playback singing the following year through Malayalam movie, Madambi. She was given the break by M. Jayachandran, and offered the song, Ente Sharike. She has also worked with music composers - M. M. Keeravani, Vijay Verma, Deepak Dev, Gopi Sundar, Shaan Rahman etc. She is a first rank holder of both BA Music and MA Music.
