Sayeed Quadri Biography

Sayeed Quadri is a popular and talented lyricist of Bollywood associated with Mahesh Bhatt camp. He shot to fame after penning lyrics of Mahesh Bhatt’s production ventures – Jism and Murder, both known for its bold subjects. Songs like Aawarapan of Jism and Bheege Hote Mere of Murder were penned by Sayeed, who sees writing lyrics and poems as his hobby, than a profession. He is a fulltime LIC agent.  He got IIFA awards for best lyricist for Bheege Hote Mere of Murder and a nomination at ZEE Film Awards for "Awarapan Banjarapan" of Jism.

Sayeed Quadri is a native of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He came to Mumbai for the first time in 1980s in search of work in Bollywood. He met producer-director Mahesh Bhatt who was a struggling artist then. Though Mahesh Bhatt couldn’t give him work immediately he promised Quadri to give him opportunity in future. However he got opportunity to pen lyrics for one less-known movie, Manju Mishra's 'Dhat Tere Ki' in 1983. The movie went unnoticed and returned back to his hometown. Sahir Ludhainvi has been his great inspiration to writing songs.

Mahesh Bhatt kept his promise and gave him the first break to films through Jism in 2002. Both the songs and movie were well-noticed and Sayeed penned lyrics for the movie aside Neelesh Misra. Sayeed penned the lyrics for “Awarapan Banjarapan", "Shikayat Hai" and "Mere Khwabon Ka". Since then he got permanently associated with Mahesh Bhatt camp and penned lyrics for two more John Abraham movies in a row – Saaya and Paap, the movies that got appreciated for its music and lyrics. He wrote all songs of Saaya which include - "Aye Meri Zindagi", "O Sathiya" and "Aai To Teri Yaad”.

With the songs - "Bheege Hont" and "Kaho Na Kaho" of Murder, the lyricist catapulted to fame and there was no turning back. Yet he was not willing to give up his full time profession. In fact he occasionally comes to Mumbai. He writes songs staying at his hometown and sends songs through phone to the film producer and composer. He frequently writes for Pritam, Anu Malik and Mithoon’s tunes. After becoming popular as a Bollywood lyricist it’s easy to get LIC policies from customers as they believe he is a celebrity – says the lyricist.

‘Paap’, ‘Jism’, 'Murder 1, 2 & 3', 'Zeher', 'Kalyug', 'Gangster', 'Bhool Bhulaiya', 'Kismat Konnection', 'Tum Mile', ‘Bas Ek Pal’, ’Life in a... Metro’, ‘Raaz – The Mystery Continues’, ‘Billu’, ‘Jannat’, ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’, ‘Khamoshiyan’ etc are among his major works.
