Shellee Biography 
Shailender Singh Sodhi, better known by his pen name Shellee is an Indian Poet, film lyricist and writer who closely works with Bollywood cinema. He is the son of Punjabi writer and poet Himmat Singh Sodhi. This Punjabi writer hails from Chandigarh. As a lyricist and background music composer, he has been associated with Bollywood projects, Dev.D (2009), Udta Punjab (2016), Phillauri (2017) and Veere Di Wedding (2018). He took the name Shelly after one of his teachers, who was a fan of English poet PB Shelley, started calling him Shelley.
Shailender Singh Sodhi was born in Chandigarh in 1970. He started writing poetry and stories from an early age. He schooled from DAV School, Ambala cantonment. He studied theater from Ambala Cantt and Panjab University, Chandigarh and later assisted legendary poet-lyricist, Gulzar. Shellee dreamt to become an actor. But circumstances established him as a poet and lyricist. He worked with Censor Board member for four years.
He marked his Bollywood debut as a lyricist in the year 2008. Film director Anurag Kashyap approached him to write the lyrics for Dev.D. The movie included more than 15 songs in different versions, and Shelly penned 5 songs - "Dhol Yaara Dhol", "Pardesi", "Mahi Mennu", "Ranjhana" and "Hikknaal". The movie was noted for its unique theme and music, and also bagged prestigious National award for best music score. Since then Shelly is regular with Bollywood films.
He rose to fame with ‘Chitta Ve’, the theme song of ‘Udta Punjab’ in 2016. It is the colloquial name for smack or heroin. He has a Chinese-Indian wife, Meiying. His son was 16 years old when ‘Udta Punjab’ got released in 2016. Now apart from penning down lyrics, he also works as background music composer in Bollywood.
