A. N. Shamseer Biography

A. N. Shamseer is an Indian politician from Kerala belonging to leftist group, LDF. He currently serves as MLA from Thalassery constituency representing CPI (M) party. He defeated A.P. Abdullakutty of Indian National Congress by a huge margin of 34117 votes in the 2016 state assembly elections. He currently serves as the state president of DYFI, Communist state committee. Under SFI and DYFI he has led many strikes and protests against Congress led UDF government.

 

He got active in students’ politics since 1990s, and as a youth leader he has served many positions such as SFI Kannur district president in 2001, SFI All India joint secretary in 2009, SFI All India joint secretary in 2009, Thalassery Co-operative hospital President in 2014 etc.

 

A young leader of state politics right now, Shamseer hails from Thalassery of Kannur district. Kodiyeri is his native village and he was born in the year 1977. His school and education were done at Thalassery and later he completed Master’s in Law and anthropology from Kannur University. He entered politics during his school days through SFI and was fully active during his college days. Shamseer was the first Chairman of the Kannur University Union. Prior to it he became Kannur University union councilor. As a party leader he has reached national level positions inside the party. He became National Vice President of SFI in 2009. In 2011 he was elected as DYFI Kannur district president.

 

Despite being a young leader, through his caliber he earned a ticket to contest in 2016 state assembly elections representing CPI (M) Party. He got elected quite convincingly and it is his first term as an MLA. Known for his strikes against UDF, he was once jailed for 91 days.
