Alankrita Shrivastava Biography
Alankrita Shrivastava is a female film director and screenwriter from Bollywood, best known for the acclaimed and controversial film, Lipstick Under My Burkha which was showcased at several international film festivals. She marked her film debut with Turning 30!!! She is the niece of acclaimed director Prakash Jha. She has assisted Prakash Jha for several political thrillers before she turned a full-time film director. As a director, she has directed only two movies and most are women-centric ones with feminist shades. She scripted both these movies too.
Alankrita Shrivastava hails from Delhi. Her schooling was done at all-girls’ boarding school, New Delhi and Welham Girls' School in Dehradun. She continued her studies at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi and Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia. To pursue a career in Bollywood, she moved to Mumbai, and worked as an assistant director under her uncle Prakash Jha. Gangaajal, Apaharan, Loknayak, Dil Dosti, Khoya Khoya Chand, Rajneeti etc are some of the films, where she worked as Assistant Director, Associate director, Executive Producer etc.
She marked his film debut as a director with Turning 30!!! The movie released in the year 2011 starred Gul Panag in the title role, and Tillotama Shome, Anita Kanwar, Purab Kohli and Siddharth Makkar in supporting roles. The movie opened to mixed reviews and failed at box office. Her second film Lipstick Under My Burkha released in 2017 invited a lot of controversies for the bold theme. Yet the movie received critical acclaim and emerged as box office success. The movie told the story of three women of different age groups, with free thinking and who want to live a life of their own, with their ambitions and dreams. Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak and Aahana Kumra played the lead roles.
