Annapoorna Biography

Annapoorna is a veteran character artist associated with Telugu cinema at present. A graceful actress on Telugu cinema, she is one among the first choices to play elderly characters. She played numerous mother, aunt and grandmother roles on screen. She is associated with silver screen since 1975 and has completed 40 years in the film industry. She started her film career playing lead heroine’s roles and later moved to character and mother roles. She worked with almost all leading heroes of 1980s. She won Nandi award for both best actress and best supporting actress.

She started her career in 1975 Telugu film “Swargam Narakam” as a lead actress. Mohan Babu played her co-star’s role and the film was a super hit. After playing a few lead roles she later moved to character roles. With 1990s, she started accepting mother roles. In fact Mohan Babu with whom she was paired for the debut film played her son’s role in Telugu film “Assembly Rowdy”, which too was a major success.

Assembly Rowdy, Samsaram Oka Chadarangam, Muthyamantha Muddu and Swargam Narakam are among her major hits in character roles. She shared screen space with megastar Chiranjeevi in numerous hits of 1980s. Marana Mrudangam, Khaidi No 786, Donga, Sangarshana, Raakshashudu, Trinetrudu, Chattamtho Porattam etc are among those films. With 1990s she moved to mother roles and after 2005, she played several grandmother roles on screen. She also appeared in a few Tamil and Hindi films in character roles.

She won her first “Nandi Award for best supporting actress” for the film “Manishiko Charithra” in 1982. In 1996 she won Nandi award for best actress. She acted in more than 50 movies belonging to different languages.
