Beena Kak Biography

Beena Kak is a Bollywood film actress known for character roles. She is also a successful politician at present, associated with Indian National Congress. A prominent figure of Rajasthan state politics she is a four-time Member of the Legislative Assembly in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Sumerpur constituency. She has also served as a cabinet minister handling portfolios - Woman & Child Development, Tourism, Art & Culture, Archeology, Printing & Stationery etc. Her daughter Amrita Kak is a popular playback singer associated with Bollywood.

 

As a Bollywood actress, she made her film debut with Salman Khan starrer Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? in 2005 and has done a few character roles. She is quite close to Salman Khan’s family and has played Salman’s mother in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and God Tussi Great Ho, apart from doing a supporting role in Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love. Nanhe Jaisalmer and Dulha Mil Gaya are her other noted Bollywood roles. She gained attention playing an angry mother in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. her daughter Amrita regularly sings for Salman Khan movies and is his rakhi sister.

 

She was born in Bharatpur, Rajasthan in 1954. She has two brothers and two sisters. Her sister, Kamla Bhasin, is a writer and feminist activist. Beena had some theatre experience during college days, though she never took it seriously. A politician by choice and an actress by chance, she loves to entertain people. She also loves cooking. She can identify the recipe by tasting a dish – declares the actress. Her cooking skills are now being appreciated in Bollywood also. Her son Ankur who is a trained chef runs a restaurant chain in Jaipur. In 2013 state assembly elections, she lost to BJP. She is now divorced from Bharat Kak.
