Bhadran Biography
Bhadran is a well-known and talented director and screenwriter of Malayalam cinema known for the movies - Olympiyan Anthony Adam, Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kaathu, Udayon, Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha, Uncle Bun, Iyer the great, Changatham, Vellithira, Sphadikam and Spadikam. As a screenplay and dialogue writer, his noted works are Sukhamo Devi, Kizhakkunarum pakshi, Aayirappara, Vishnu, Bharya Swantham Suhruthu, Sarvakalasala and Ee ganam marakkumo. He is known for extreme sophistication in screenwriting and most of his films and its themes were beyond times! Many of his films like Spadikam and Iyyer the great have learnt the name of Malayalam classics. He has delivered numerous memorable movies with Mammootty and Mohanlal and have also included many evergreen hits.
He was born in November 22, 1952. Bhadran was not at all intentional to reach movies as a director. He was a talented singer since childhood and started formal learning in music. He was interested in acting too and has won many prizes for acting and writing. His dream was to become an actor or singer. But destination was something else and he became popular as a screenwriter and director. So the director believes nothing is in our hands. He entered movies as an assistant director in the early 1980’s and has worked for movies, like Valarthu Mrugangal (1981) and Lava (1980). In 1982, he debut direction with Ente Mohangal Poovaninju with Shankar and Menaka in main lead. This movie was later remade to Tamil.
Many of his themes were beyond time. Best instances are Spadikam, Iyyer the great and Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha. Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha was noticed for its theme and its evergreen songs like Vaadil pazhuthillode sung by Yesudas. It was after a long break that Dakshinamurthy gave music to a movie and through the movie, Bhadran told that Love is beyond age, and it told the love story of a teenage boy to an elder girl, the roles being played by Karthika and Vineeth. During 1980’s it was a new theme introduced to Malayalam cinema. But the attempt was a failure at box office.
Iyyer the great with Mammootty in lead role was a fresh story till then, in which Mammooty foresees all coming incidents. When the script was linked with recent train accident of Peruman, the idea clicked at box office. Spadikam, with Mohanlal and Urvashi in lead is regarded as a landmark movie of 1990’s for its theme as well as powerful performances.
