Bobby Deol Biography

Bobby Deol, a noted Bollywood actor belongs to a filmy family. His father Dharmendra and step mother Hema Malini was the greatest pair of Bollywood during 1970’s who has given great contributions to Indian film industry. His elder brother Sunny Deol is also a successful actor, famous for action scenes and body fitness. His younger sister (half sister) Isha Deol is a Bollywood actress and his cousin Abhay Deol is doing magician’s role on screen, particularly Bengali movies.

It was not a big deal to debut in Bollywood as he belonged to a film family. He has done a small role in his father’s film Dharam Veer in 1977. He debut as a hero in 1995 movie Barsaat, along with Twinkle Khanna, daughter of Rajesh Khanna. It was her debut movie too. The movie was a big flop though its music and Bobby’s performance were noted. But it earned him the Filmfare for best debut male. After a short break, he did two movies in 1997 with leading ladies of Bollywood. Gupt – a suspense thriller and triangle love story was a big success that time. Kajol and Manisha Koirala played the ladies’ roles in the movie. But his movie with Aiswarya Rai, ‘Aur pyar ho gaya’ failed at box office.

Next year 1998, two movies were released. A romantic movie titled Kareeb and suspense thriller action movie Soldier. Again, the romantic movie failed and his action thriller was a big hit. So, his career as an action hero began to boom. In the year 2000, the action movie Bichoo and Badal, opposite Rani Mukherjee became successful though romantic movie Hum to muhabbat karega failed again! This trend was repeated in the following years too. His role as a loyal husband in the movie Humraaz was well noted that earned him one and only one nomination in Filmfare. It was the case of most of his movies. His action and suspense movies like Soldier, Humraaz, Badal and Gupt were accepted by audience while his romantic movies like Aashiq were rejected.

Again we witnessed him as a flop actor where most of his movies (of any genre) failed at box office. Jurm, Bardasht, Kranthi, Kismat, Jurm, Chor machaya shor and above all ‘Barsaat’ (2005), the movie with the same title of his debut movie in 1995. In 2010, for the second time, he worked with his brother and Dharmendra for the movie ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ and reproduced the success of Apna (2007). Now the sequel of this movie is under production and will be released in theatres very soon. He has been successful with Kajol, Priety Zinta, Rani Mukherjee, Ameesha Patel and Manisha Koirala.
