G. M. Kumar Biography
G. M. Kumar is a noted character artist associated with Tamil films. He is also a film producer and director, who has directed a few movies in the 1980s and early 1990s and later moved to acting. Avan Ivan in 2011 is one among his best performances, where he played the role of Zamindar Thirthapathi and won a nomination at Vijay Film awards for Best Supporting Actor. He is associated with film world since mid-1980s.
Govindraj Manoharan Kumar, shortly called G. M. Kumar is a native of Chennai. He started off as a film producer with the 1986 movie, Aruvadai Naal where the lead roles were played by Prabhu and Pallavi. The movie was produced under the banner Sivaji Productions. His second release was Pickpocket in 1989 with Sathyaraj playing the male lead. He teamed up with Prabhu once again for 1991 movie - Irumbu Pookkal. As a director, his last release was Uruvam the same year with Mohan in lead. With this movie he became a bankrupt and stopped his career in filmmaking.
After that he switched his career to acting and still now active in the field. As a film actor he marked his debut with Captain Magal in 1993, where he played villain in Bharathiraja movie. But after that he disappeared from film scene and was associated with documentaries and studies in anthropology. Once again in the early 2000s he witnessed bankruptcy and started doing minor roles for movies. Avan Ivan in 2011 is one of his best performances till now as an actor. Tharai Thappattai, Chandhamama, Jagajala Pujabala Thenaliraman, Appuchi Gramam, Yatchan and Sandamarutham are among his latest releases.
