J. Sasikumar Biography
J. Sasikumar was a legendary director of Malayalam cinema who holds three great records of World cinema. He directed 141 Malayalam movies which remains the highest by any film director of world cinema. He also holds two more amazing records. Of those 141 movies, evergreen hero Prem Nazir played lead hero role in 84 movies, which remains the highest in any language movies of world cinema. He also holds the unique record of maximum number of films directed in a year by any director in world cinema - 15 films in 1977. Most recently in 2013, he was honoured with J. C. Daniel Award – the highest honour given to a film celebrity for contributions to Malayalam cinema. He passed away most recently on 17 July 2014.
His real name is Nambiathusseril Varkey John and he was born on 14 October 1928 in Alappuzha. Since the age of 10 he was associated with plays. He was also a member of Kerala University football team during his college days. As he was active in theatre as a stage actor, mostly associated with Shakespeare plays, he got opportunity to act in movies as well. He made his acting debut as villain through Visappinte Vili , where Prem Nazir played the lead hero. His break to industry was given by Kunchacko, under whom he worked as an assistant for Udaya Studios.
Very soon Kunchakko identified his talents as a director and gave him a break as well. Under his tutelage of P. Subramaniam in Merryland Studios, he turned a good director and went to director 141 movies in his credit, which is highest by any film producer. Many of his movies had some evergreen songs and he worked with Prem Nazir in maximum number of movies, which also remains a record. He also played bit roles in a few movies. As a film director his noted movies are Balyakalasakhi , Lanka dahanam, Velutha Katrina, Jeevitha Yaathra, Mini mol, Rest house, Swanthamevide Bandhamevide, Bobanum moliyum, Panchavadi, Anveshanam, Pick pocket, Swimming pool, Kavalam Chundan, Kudumbini, Thommante Makkal, Porter Kunjali and many more.
