Jai Ram Thakur Biography 
Jai Ram Thakur is a leading politician from Himachal Pradesh, who currently serves as the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh. Following the defeat of BJP chief minister candidate, Prem Kumar Dumal in the state assembly elections in December 2017, Thakur got elected as legislative leader on Christmas night. He has sworn in as the 13th chief minister of Himachal Pradesh on 27th December. He is the first Himachal Pradesh CM from Mandi. He has been serving as an MLA of HP since 1998, and also served as the cabinet minister during the period, 2009-2012 handling the portfolio Rural Development & Pachayati Raj. He is one of the youngest chief ministers of the state as well.
Jai Ram Thakur was born in Tandi, Himachal Pradesh on 6th January 1965. He was born into a poor family of 5 siblings, and his father worked in fields. His secondary school education was completed at Badsiad, and graduation from Mandi. He also took his Master’s degree from Panjab University. He had struggling school days due to the financial crisis of the family, and he used to work in the field in his teens to financially support his family. He also worked to continue with his college education.
Thakur was drawn to politics during his academic years while during graduation, and later married his collegue, Sadhana, who was a leader of ABVP, students’ wing of Bharatiya Janata Party. Sadhana is a doctor by profession and the couple has two daughters, currently pursuing MBBS degree. Thakur served as joint secretary of State ABVP in 1986. Since then he earned several prominent positions in state politics, and also served as President of BJP in state politics during 2006-2009.
He got elected to state assembly for the first time in 1998 in BJP ticket from Chachiot (Seraj), and since then has been elected multiple times in 2003 and 2007 from the same constituency. One of the most popular leaders of the party in the past 2 decades or so, he has never fallen the prey of any type of controversies.
